市府持續推動山城路平專案，石岡區和盛街從石岡區豐勢路至新社區中正街，長2.2公里道路改善工程已完工；東勢區豐勢路改善路段自東坑路至中正路，將於9月初路面刨封，預計10月完工。建設局長黃玉霖17日視察兩路段現況，期盼藉由路平專案，提升東勢石岡地區整體路面的品質。
建設局黃玉霖局長，17日先到石岡區和盛街視察道路改善成果，對於整平後煥然一新的路面表示肯定；隨即轉往東勢區豐勢路了解路平規畫進度。建設局表示，石岡區和盛街位於中一二九線起點，為石岡、新社區往返臨近東勢區主要交通動脈之一，但長期受通勤公車及大型重車反覆輾壓，路面產生疲勞性裂縫、路基龜裂損壞，以及部分側溝與路面出現落差情形。
施工期間考量工程品質需進行的必要封閉，同時希望讓行經該路段的公車仍能依原路線時段行駛，減少民眾交通不便；建設局及承包廠商多次沙盤推演施工方式，終於讓石岡區和盛街道路改善工程順利於7月底完成，達成品質最大化而影響民眾最小化的目標。
此外，建設局也將加速辦理東勢區豐勢路的路平案，改善路段約2公里，目前道路除佈滿人孔蓋之外，還有因過去管線單位挖掘回填不平，產生路面損壞、下陷情形。起訖點由東坑路至中正路，預計在九月初先辦理路基改善及孔蓋下地作業、9月底進行路面刨封，若天候許可，可望在10月初完工。
1994年轟動全美的前美式足球明星辛普森(OJ Simpson)殺妻及搶劫案，本月20日在內華達州舉行假釋聽證會，並透過電視臺全程直播。現年70歲的辛普森已服刑9年，若假釋通過，他將在10月1日出獄。
